Kara has spent all of her life in Buffalo, with a brief hiatus spent in Rochester and Syracuse in the 1980's. She graduated from Hutchinson Technical High School in 1992. She went on to received her B.S. in Psychology from Buffalo State College in 1997 and her Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Buffalo in 2004.
She began her career at Daemen in September 2005 after working for thirteen years in various roles at the Buffalo & Erie County Central Library. She wears many hats in her position as Assistant Director of RIC and Library Services. She is the Circulation Librarian, the supervisor of approximately forty students, assists with day-to-day operations in the RIC, and is responsible for the operation of Interlibrary Loan Services.
While away from the library, she enjoys spending time with her daughter. They love exploring all the wonders of Buffalo, from the ever-expanding waterfront, to visiting historical sites, attending numerous concerts and festivals, cheering at Sabres and Bandits games, etc, etc. They are also huge Daemen Wildcat Basketball fans and attend as many home games as they can.
In her downtime, Kara can be found on the Elmwood Strip visiting with friends and enjoying the craft beer resurgence.
Melissa joined Daemen College as Director of the RIC and Library Services in January 2016. Before coming to Daemen she worked at Erie Community College a the Chair of the library as well as providing reference and instruction to students and faculty.
Before becoming a librarian, Melissa came to Buffalo as a graduate student at the University of Buffalo earning Master’s degrees in Sociology and Women’s Studies and working at the Research Institute on Addictions. It’s the love of research that inspired Melissa to become a librarian in 2003.When not at work, Melissa can be found in the produce aisle at Wegmans. She spends much time accompanying her daughter to horse shows and dog agility trials. Melissa has a very architecturally creative son and a musically creative husband, each of whom spend a great deal of time in their respective studios.
Justin returned to his hometown of Buffalo in 2016 after four years spent writing about cameras and video equipment in New York City. A lover of research, he received his B.A. in History in 2010 and his Masters in Library Science in 2012 – both from the University at Buffalo.
After his hiatus away from libraries, Justin was thrilled to join the Daemen team as a Reference & Instruction Librarian in Fall 2016. In June 2018, Justin transitioned to his current position, which has an increased focus on archives and digital collections. Justin also serves as web designer for the library website and administrator of the College's institutional repository – Daemen Digital Commons.
When not at work, Justin can often be found at Mès Que enjoying a cocktail and cheering on his beloved Tottenham Hotspur. He is an unabashed Hufflepuff who enjoys the simple things in life, and is happiest when reading a good fantasy novel, admiring the cinematography of a well-shot film, or hiking the trails of New York State parks. He currently lives in the Town of Tonawanda with his wife, son, and giant cat.
Born and raised in Rochester, Jeff graduated from Rochester Institute of Technology in 2013 with a Bachelors degree in Multidisciplinary Studies, with focuses in game design, creative writing, communications, and linguistics. He later went on to University at Buffalo for a Masters in Library & Information Sciences. He was especially interested in reference and cataloging. In 2019, he joined Daemen College as a Reference & Instructional Librarian.
In his downtime, Jeff is a lover of all types of games. He has experience in video game design and is interested in the usage of board and card games in library settings. He has been a writer since a young age and enjoys creative writing of all kinds, especially fiction. Other interests include animals, dancing, and animation.
A Daemen alumna, Andrea has had a varied library career, from public to high school. She returned to Daemen in 2004 as a Reference Librarian and is now Head of Reference and Library Instruction. One of her major projects has been implementing ways to close the Information Literacy gap, and in 2007 she spearheaded the formation of "High School to College," a collaboration of WNY high school and academic librarians. She's also a gradate of UB with an MA in English and a Master's in Library Science.
She annoys long-suffering friends with her guitar playing, enjoys singing (much to the chagrin of her Siamese cat), and dreams of being the O. Henry of her generation.
Another Buffalo Native, Randy attended Canisius High School, Cornell University, and Heidelberg University. He worked for NASA and Harvard Medical School. One of his specialties is Natural and Health Science Librarianship. Here at Daemen, he works as the Technical Sciences Librarian where he orders and catalogs, books, and journals. He is also taking classes and working towards his certificate in Accounting. In his spare time, he likes to read literature, philosophy and natural history. He studied voice with an opera singer. He also loves art and wrestling.
Chris came to Daemen in 2011 after nearly twenty years in the publishing industry. She is the one who sorts the Legos by shape and color, proving an affinity for order and detail that translates so well to her job of keeping the library online catalog accurate and up to date.
She is a volunteer at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, fights a never-ending battle with the weeds in her ambitious garden, and very much enjoys taking business and paralegal classes here at Daemen.
Originally from Buffalo, Justin spent most of his childhood in the small village of Angola, New York where his initial love of libraries was kindled; as he spent countless hours in his high school library reading and playing games like Chess and Risk. After initially pursuing a career in Education, Justin would eventually graduate with a B.S. in Liberal Studies from Medaille College in 2014. Shortly before graduation, he would pick up a part-time position as a Page and eventually Senior Page in the Stacks Department of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library, where he rediscovered his love of libraries, which led him to pursue his Masters in Library and Information Science from San José State University, graduating in Spring 2018.
Justin came to Daemen in the Fall of 2018, where he started as a part-time Evening Reference and Circulation Technical Assistant. In June 2019, Justin made the jump to full-time and left his position at the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library after 5 years.
In his spare time, Justin is an unabashed Star Wars nerd, who also enjoys reading, history, video games and cheering on the Buffalo Sabres.
